A first haircut, step by step
What happens from the booking to the last brush of the neck.
- 01
Step 1: Book the first cut
Pick the first haircut on the booking page, or call, and say it is a first. We hold extra time on a quieter part of the day, and you can come by beforehand to sit in the chair with no clippers running.
- 02
Step 2: What to bring
A photo of the cut you have in mind, a book or a small toy for the wait, and a grown-up who stays for the whole cut.
- 03
Step 3: When you arrive
Come about 10 minutes early and sign the board by the door. Parking is in the lot behind the shop, and the play corner is by the front window.
- 04
Step 4: What to expect
A cape, a booster board or a parent's lap, then the barber's hands: a comb first, then scissors or small clippers shown and switched off before they start. The child sets the pace, and a first cut takes longer than a regular one.
Chair options
A chair for every size
Tell us how your child would like to sit, and we set the chair up before you sit down.
Booster board
A padded board across the arms of the chair lifts a small child to the barber's reach. Most school-age kids sit this way.
Parent's lap
For a first cut or a nervous toddler, a parent sits in the chair with the child on their lap, and the barber works around you both.
Regular chair
When a child asks for the big chair, it goes up or down to fit, and a cape closes at the neck.
At the chair
Hands, a comb and a cape
A kid's cut at Lollipop is the barber's hands, a comb and a cape, nothing hurried. We show the scissors or the small clippers first, switch them off and let the child hear them, and then begin.
A parent stays in the shop for every child's cut. Brothers and sisters wait in the play corner, and you are welcome to stand beside the chair.

About first cuts
How old does my child need to be?
Kids' cuts are for ages 12 and under, from a first haircut on. If your child is not sure about the chair, come in beforehand and sit in it while no clippers are running.
How long does a first haircut take?
Plan on about 30 minutes, and it can run longer. A first cut gets extra time on the chair and a quieter part of the day.
What if my child will not sit still?
We go slowly. The child can stand, walk to the play corner and come back, or sit on your lap. If today is not the day, we rebook with no fuss.
Can I stay with my child?
Yes, and we ask that you do. A parent or another adult stays in the shop for every child's cut.
Can my children be cut one after the other?
Yes. Book the cuts together and we line them up back to back, or sign the board once if you walk in.
